I wonder if you have taken a walk in the woods lately? The autumn leaves are changing into beautiful colours. Have you seen them? What else have you seen while walking in the woods....maybe a Gruffalo?!

This week we will learn about the autumn leaves and their colours, and you can have a go at leaf threading. We will also listen to An Gruffalo in Gaelic, and you might want to make a Gruffalo, or some tasty Gruffalo crumble muffins.

Let's start with a song about the autumn leaves. We have sung this one before at Cròileagan sessions, so you may know it. The words are below, and you can hear it being sung here.

You probably all know the story of the Gruffalo, and some of you might even have the Gaelic version of the book at home. You might also have seen the Gaelic version on BBC Alba in the past (it's no longer available on iPlayer, but it might come back, so keep an eye out...). Here you can listen the lovely Miss MacTaggart (who used to teach at Taobh na Pàirce) reading An Gruffalo, along with pictures of the pages.

For craft this week, we have a couple of different ideas. 

You could pick some lovely autumn leaves on your next walk, and thread them on some string or wool to make a beautiful autumn garland. Click here for instructions.

Or maybe you would prefer to make your own Gruffalo using a paper plate (or a circle of cardboard) and tissue paper/paint/crayons/whatever you have to hand. Click here for instructions.

Finally, if you are feeling a bit hungry after all that hard work, you could try making these delicious Gruffalo crumble muffins. Mmmmm...blasta!

Hello again, how are you all?

Well, the weather wasn't too bad this past week in the end. It definitely feels cooler though. We are continuing with our autumnal theme this week and with the Splis! Splais! song.

Well, it looks like it is going to be wet for the next week and it feels a bit cooler too so it is probably time for us to cover some vocab that we might need for Am Foghar - Autumn. We sing Splis! We're looking at body parts again this week, with another simple song that might be new to some of you.

Hello, and welcome back to online Cròileagan!

For the time being we are unable to restart any of our Cròileagan sessions as they used to run, and so we will continue to support our families with their Gaelic learning the best that we can virtually. 

Thank you to everyone who took the time to answer our survey. We have taken note of the answers, which generally all agreed that everyone would like to continue with the vocabulary, include more stories and songs, as well as the fact that people missed the social interaction. While we are not allowed to organise any face to face meetings, even outdoor ones, we are looking into ways we can set up some virtual social meetings and spaces. We'll share more once we know more about what we are permitted to do.

We are also hoping to be able to share more videos that include ourselves, like book readings, but before we can do that we need to find a way to get to all of our Cròileagan books which are currently all in buildings that we don't have access to!  

Anyway, onto this week's topic, which is A' Bhodhaig - The Body.

End of Term

Dear Families,

As this is the last week of the school term for this year it is also the last week of Cròileagan. It has been a strange few months as we tried to put our activities online and keep up the Cròileagan spirit! We hope you have enjoyed the digital newsletters. The links will remain on the blog so you can revisit them over the summer as you wish.

Usually, in the last few sessions, we would give a big Cròileagan goodbye to those children moving to sgoil-araich or to C1. Sgioba Cròileagan are sad that we won’t get to do that this year and so you can find a certificate to download and fill in if your wee one is moving on from Cròileagan after the summer.

We have been missing you all and are really looking forward to welcoming families back when it is safe to do so.

Song Time

On the video Linda sings three songs and reads the Cric Crac Crùbag book which many of you will recognise from Cròileagan. We have included all the words of the songs on  as some of them are slightly different to those we normally sing.

Craft Time

The craft is quite easy, just draw one large circle and four smaller ones from red paper or card (or white paper and colour it in) fold over the circles, stick them down and draw on some legs and eyes.
