An t-Earrach - The Spring

We are ever hopeful that Spring can’t be too far away now, surely! So this week we learned a few words relating to an t-Earrach and made some cheerful looking Spring pictures.

Our words of the week were:

Earrach - Spring 

Flùr - Flower

Bad fhluiraichean - bunch of flowers

Flùr-bhileag - petal 

Cuiseag - stalk

At song time we sang Mè, mè, a chaora dhubh (Baa, baa, black sheep) and you can find the words for it on our handout above.

Latha nam Màthraichean

Last week we prepared for Latha nam Màthraichean (Mother’s Day)

For craft we made some lovely book marks to give to mamaidh (mummy), using some rubber stamps and ink.

Comharra-leabhair - Bookmark

At song time we sang two lullabies. The first was the one we did last week, Dùin do shùilean, luaidh mo chridh’. The second was Bai Ù Ohò, and you can hear how this is sung on Orain na Cloinne Bige, either on the website here or by downloading the app.

A' dol dhan Leabaidh - Going to Bed

Following on from our learning about Morning Routine's last week, this week we looked at Bedtime Routines.

For craft we painted moons and stars yellow, painted a paper plate blue and then stuck the moon & stars onto the plate.

We had two related songs this week. The first was the simpler Priob-Priob, Priob-Priob Rionnag Bheag (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star). The second was the lovely lullaby Dùin do shùilean, luaidh mo chridh' (Close your eyes, love of my heart).

Morning Routine

We learned some very useful phrases about morning routines.

For craft we coloured in and then cut out pictures showing a morning routine and then we cut out and stuck on the related phrases.

Là Naomh Bhaileintin - St Valentine's Day

In the week before Valentine's Day we made some Valentine's Cards based on the book 'Cho Mòr 's a Tha Mo Ghaol Ort' (Guess How Much I Love You).

A' dol tarsainn an rathad - Crossing the road

We learned a few words and phrases about crossing the road safely.

For craft we made some traffic lights with the related words on each colour of light.

Our road safety phrases can be seen in the picture of the handout below, and so can the song we learned.

Làmhan - Hands

In our second week back at Cròileagan we had lots of fun making hand prints.

Our phrases were all related to either hands or age, and you can see them all on our handout below.

Songtime included two related songs, Timcheall a' Gàrraidh (Round and Round the Garden) and Uilleam òrdag (Tommy Thumb). Again the words for both songs are in the picture of the handout above.

Dè a' mhìos a th'ann? - What month is it?

We started the New Year back at Cròilegan by learning the months of the year.

We also introduced our new weekly handouts, which combine our 'Abairt na Seachdain' (phrase of the week), our song(s) for the week, a picture of the craft and any information we need to pass on all in the one place.

Our two phrases were:

Dè a' mhìos a th'ann? - What month is it?

'S e am Faoilleach a th'ann - It's January

For craft we cut out all the months of the year, and the days of the week, and took them home along with a sheet to stick the correct day and month on.

At song time we sang 'Obh, obh, tha mi fuar', which we sing quite often in the winter time!
